Alexander Ovechkin broke the record for most goals by a left winger by scoring his 64th and 65th goals of the season against the Tampa Bay lightning. He has surpassed Luc Robitaile for the most goals by a left winger in a season. On top of all of the Ovechkin talk, the Washington Capitals have putting the pedal to the metal and steamrolling their way to a playoff division. At one point this season the Caps were the worst team in the league, but now are tied for the lead with Carolina in the Southeast Division. As of right now, they are in the top 8 of the Eastern Conference, but need to win this last game, and if Carolina loses their last game, the Caps will win the division and secure home ice in the first round of the playoffs. The team has been playing with a passion for making the playoffs, and they have shown that they can win. Expect to see this team battling it out with the Pens for the Eastern Conference finals this spring.
Note: Ovechkin's 64,65th goals are the most by a player since Mario Lemieux did it in the 95-96 season. He scored 69 goals. Can Ovechkin catch 69 in one more game? He has scored 4 once this year already, it will be an exciting watch. If anyone has NHL center ice, tune in to the Caps next game against The Florida Panthers on Saturday April 5th.
